Delay in Barry Road Completion Until November
As we know, there’s been lots of work and time involved, in addition to several complaints about delays in completion. However, according to the Kansas City Star (Posted on Tue, Aug. 31, 2010 10:15 PM. Read more here), the latest target date for the completion of the bridge on Barry Road over Rush Creek is late November 2010.
The city closed the two-lane bridge because of safety issues in 2008. Rebuilding the three-lane bridge is part of the $11+ million dollar project that includes widening Barry Road from two to four lanes from North Conant to North Amity. It also includes widening North Amity between Barry Road and Missouri 152. The Barry Road section in front of the Rocky Point Schoolhouse will be expanded to three lanes from North Potomac to North Amity.
Although construction of the bridge should be done by late November, the widening of North Amity will continue into late 2011. The unsightly appearance and inconvenience will be worth it for the residents of Weatherby Lake, however. Bike lanes and pedestrian paths will modernize the area and make it safe for residents to exercise. This is particularly beneficial for active families with children, who want to take advantage of the safe commute to Zona Rosa for a family outing…..especially for the future resident of the historic schoolhouse who will have immediate access to these travel lanes!
